This weekend parts of the Columbia Gorge reopened after the horrible burn in August of 2017 by a teenager with a firework. The Columbia Gorge is one of the most hiked and visited areas in Oregon and for good reason. There was a lot of excited hikers on the trail. I had never hiked this trail myself, as I moved here early in 2017 and then it was on fire!
The hike was very normal, maybe a few scorch marks on a few trees here and there. Once closer to the top the trail became surreal. There was no cover but blackened trees sticking straight up.
It was very sad but also very beautiful at the same time. I concentrated my lens to the textures and life beneath the burnt surface.
The fire had hit each tree in different ways. Some trees where completely penetrated by the fire.
Here you can see the line of where the fire blazed, blackened trees with no vegetation except fresh yellow moss.
